Rosy-faced lovebird
These are also known as rosy-faced lovebirds, peach-faced lovebirds, or simply lovebirds. They refer to a small dwarf parrot with predominantly green plumage, which is brightly colored on the head and neck.
So werden they called lovebirds, or also the inseparables. Meant is a small dwarf parrot with predominantly green plumage, which is colored brightly on the head and neck.
Food
The name - the inseparables - the rosy-faced lovebird certainly bears with good reason, because the pairs live together longer than in most species of lovebirds and also many other birds that form a pair bond. The small 12.5-17.5 cm long parrots move through Africa in pairs or in smaller flocks. This is their habitat, where they live and find food. The diet consists of plants such as grass seeds, fruits and also grains. They especially love millet, which comes in different varieties.
There are different subspecies of rosy-faced lovebirds. These include the orange-faced lovebirds, black-collared lovebirds, peach-faced lovebirds, and the strawberry-faced lovebirds, etc. The variety is relatively large. Differences are not only in the plumage coloration. There are also differences in breeding behavior. For example, the orange-faced lovebirds, along with some other subspecies, carry their nesting material in the rump and back feathers. Other species with a white eye ring carry their nesting material in their beaks.
Lifestyle
One peculiarity compared to other parrot species is the fact that lovebirds line their nests with nesting material. This behavior is rather unusual. The clutch consists of 3-6 eggs, which are incubated solely by the female. During this time, the male supplies the female with food until the young hatch after 23-25 days. The inseparables care for their brood together until they leave the nest after 5-7 weeks. The young are still cared for by the parents for another 2 weeks after that. Lovebirds are often kept and bred by humans. With the exception of the green-faced lovebird, the rosy-faced lovebird can be easily kept in human care.
