Plants in Africa
When you travel through the tropical regions of Africa, you will encounter numerous exotic plants. They are all perfectly adapted to the dry climate and optimally suited to the conditions.
Tropical flora in Africa
Whether in the bush or on safari, along the roadsides or in gardens and parks, you can admire the beautiful plants everywhere. African vegetation has a variety of rare plants to offer. The different climatic effects have also brought about different types of vegetation. On the one hand, the tropical climate is very humid, although there is also drought, on the other hand, you can also find dry climates in Africa. This dry climate is also rather subtropical, which extends over a certain part of Africa. Here you can find numerous plants that have mainly spread in the rainforest.
Due to the constantly humid climate, the plants are always thriving. Africa is characterized by the total contrast of climate change, which is reflected in the plants. The different influences favor the flora and rely on adaptability in nature. The plants extend from the African Sahara to the beach, but they can also be observed in the bush. However, there are many wild plants in Africa that feel at home there. These are usually not native flowers or trees. Due to the transfer of seeds in the air, they germinated abundantly in the soil.
Different types of plants
Whether in the regions of Kenya, Gambia or Senegal, there are different plant species spreading in every zone of Africa. The different temperatures affect the growth of the plants and reveal a diversity of vegetation. If you travel to the area around the Cape, you will find over 8,000 flowering plants there. You can also find flowers such as gladiolas or lilies, which are also known in Europe, in parts of Africa. In South Africa there is also a national flower, which is a silver tree species and has red flowers. This national flower is called king protea and grows mainly at the Cape of Good Hope.
Only a few plants are hardy
The baobab and the camel thorn also belong to the typical tree forms in Africa. The baobab can be found in the northern African regions. The trunk of the tree serves as a watering hole for animals during the African dry season. The camel thorn belongs to the species of acacias and is found rather in dry riverbeds. It grows mainly in desert areas and is a special type of shade tree. The plants that can be admired in Africa are also unique in their appearance. The growth of the trees, shrubs or bushes is pronounced and simply unique in their shape. Plants that are brought from Africa to Europe can hardly survive a winter. There are only a few species that are hardy.
