Ancient Nomadic Life

There were various rituals and customs among the tribe that were considered unique. Herodotus, among others, reported unusual marriage customs. The men of the tribe were married to multiple women, thus living in polygamy. The people lived a nomadic life. In the summer, they let their herds graze in the coastal area and moved to an oasis to harvest dates. Some male members of the tribe went hunting in swampy areas and advanced into the interior of Africa during their conquests.

Victorious Campaign

The Nasamones also had noteworthy independent burial customs. The dead were buried in a sitting position. During Roman times, the Nasamones were pushed south. In the year 85 BC, the Roman Emperor Domitian conducted a victorious campaign against the people of the Nasamones.
