Political movements
Especially in the sixties, when many African states were fighting for independence and against the colonial powers, the most diverse movements emerged. Whether political in nature, cultural or for social concerns, the commitment knew no bounds anymore.
When the regime was overthrown in 1991 by the Tigray People's Liberation Front, people began to reorganize many things. The Oromo finally got their own federal state, which included most of the Oromo territories.
Fight for an independent state
The togetherness of different Oromo sub-tribes was strengthened by the division into regions and groups. The relationships with the neighboring tribes changed rapidly.
The Oromo Liberation Front continues to fight against the oppression by the Ethiopian government and for an independent Oromo state. Unfortunately, this has not been successful so far. The Oromo will continue to fight for their goals, if necessary even with violence.
