Riots among the Nomads

There were repeated riots among the Meded, and according to ancient inscriptions, they repeatedly caused problems. There were various names for the tribe; for example, in connection with the temple plundering by Aspelta in Kawa, they are also referred to as Mdyy in inscriptions. The western nomads, as the Meded were also called, were first mentioned by name 5 centuries before Christ. This happened in the annals of Arikamaninot. He reports that the Meded had attacked the city, but when they saw the king, they fled.

Peoples Living in the Western Desert

The Meded lived mainly in the western desert of the African continent. The tribe of the Meded was its own ethnic group, although researchers at times identified them with the Beja, who, however, lived in the eastern desert. A large cemetery was discovered near Kurti. There, a settlement area of the Meded is suspected. The Meded also lived in the Niger region, but there they were only a minority.
