The People of Egypt

The majority of Egyptians today profess the Muslim faith. Christians and Jews belong to the minority in Egypt. Egyptians are considered a very progressive yet traditional people. Things like emancipation are noted and accepted, but only tolerated and promoted to a certain extent.

Languages of Egypt

The official language of Egyptians is Arabic. In addition, various dialects are spoken. English and French are the most commonly spoken foreign languages. Despite a relatively good school system and compulsory education, about 50 percent of Egyptians are still illiterate. Egyptians living in larger cities also have a good healthcare system. In rural areas, however, there are still major supply gaps.
