Second largest lakes in the world

Among the largest lakes are, among others, Lake Victoria, which is the second largest freshwater lake in the world. Lake Tanganyika is the world's second largest lake, which brings with it a large volume and sufficient depth. However, only Lake Victoria, Lake Albert and Lake Edward are named as the most important lakes, as these feed the White Nile. In the Congo region, Lake Kivu and Lake Tanganyika drain. The lakes are located in the region of the Great African Lakes. This area is bordered by various other African states, such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo or Kenya. The lake regions are also home to most of the people and there is very fertile land to be found there. The agricultural land is cultivated and archaeological sites are also part of the scenery of the lake regions. In the desert areas, such as the Sahara, there are hardly any lakes that emphasize the fertility of the land. Only during the rainy season does the groundwater rise and refill the lakes with it.

Source of the Nile

Although this may sound unlikely, the Nile originates in the Sahara. There is the source of the Nile. Lake Victoria was once very large, but today only a remnant of it remains. It is located on the East African Plateau at about 1000 meters above sea level. There are numerous species of fish in the lake and it is also a popular excursion or holiday destination. Only certain lakes in Africa are of importance as they are heavily influenced by the economy. Numerous major cities and metropolises can be found on the shores of Lake Ukerewe, which contribute to the economy. The plant and animal world around the lakes is very diverse and hippopotamuses also live on the shores. Numerous species of perch are also found and can be caught in the lakes of Africa. With an average depth of 540 meters and a length of 650 kilometers, Lake Tanganyika is the second largest lake in Africa, but also a globally known body of water. It is the largest freshwater reservoir and various species of animals can also be found in the water. Small fish species, jellyfish and also crocodiles dominate the lake.

Fertile areas

Around the lakes, numerous fertile fields and landscapes can be found. Even at Lake Malawi, which is the third largest on the African continent, numerous animal species can be found. There are few small fish here, but many cichlids, hippopotamuses and also fish eagles can be observed. In North Africa there are also the Bitter Lakes and Lake Chad, in East Africa the Edward Lake and Lake Turkana, which was once called Lake Rudolf, are also mapped. In the east of Africa there are still many smaller lakes that are distributed over the region. In South Africa and in the west, there are also reservoirs and other small standing bodies of water that have vital functions for people. Agriculture is greatly facilitated by the water sources in the poor land.
