Architecture
African art and architecture have developed rapidly in recent years. Nowadays, the art of sub-Saharan Africa is increasingly being integrated into African culture.
Architecture and Art in Africa
Various states and cities of the country are working on the production of new structures and architectural designs to further support the country's work. Art in Africa today mainly consists of wooden sculptures that were already erected many years ago. The climatic conditions and, above all, the habitat of Africans did not make it easy for traditional art.
The artistic and designed works in Africa were already created at the beginning of the 20th century. These have since been transmitted to Europe and were intended to emphasize African cultures. Above all, the collected works and the research that went into the different figures were of very high importance there. Museums and collections were also created from African art, so that the art market could develop very strongly in this country.
It was precisely the terms "primitivism" or "Negro sculpture" that were very frequently used at this time. These keywords simply belonged to classical modernism and pointed to the clear and simple forms, the timeless aura of African art.
The traditional art and culture in Africa
The art and culture of African art is very closely tied to mythologies, festivals, and rituals. The world of ancestors and above all the world of the gods play a very important role in this art. Even at that time, the Africans' belief in culture and the art of architecture was passed on. Most masks and figures are therefore under very high protection. They are intended to ward off evil and serious illnesses and were to be used at various festivals. This is clearly evident in architecture as well. For in this area too, Africans relied on the gods and customs and thus found a new way to experience architecture in this country. Celebrations and rituals are also part of their culture. These figures are even used at circumcision festivals to interpret symbols of fertility. The various artistic designs are mainly provided with masks and headdresses. These are intended to include thrones and stools that signify the gods and culture. Africans have therefore imitated certain structures that are found in the different art centers. These include above all Mali, Guinea and also Burkina Faso.
African Architecture - A Time of Modernity?
African architecture has developed very far. Researchers already refer to this as the time of modernity. Especially in the older cities or in the cities where the various sights can be found, architecture has brought with it a very high status to this day. The various buildings remind us of African culture and characterize the tribes there. In architecture, Africans have also incorporated the same features. Small statues and figures on the buildings, religious backgrounds, and pompous structures can be found there. It is precisely the houses of worship and the sights in the city that play a high role here. These are also handmade and bring tourists closer to the culture and life of Africans.
